The Paignton Darts Academy was born from a chat between friends. Whilst discussing the shortage of youngsters coming into the leagues and the lack of venues for youths to play in Torbay, Brian and Syd created the Paignton Darts Academy. The Academy started in April 2015 with 5 children with varying degrees of darting prowess. Our first academy was at The Devonport Arms, we were given an area in the back, which we turned into a lovely academy. But it wasn't long before we out grow this building and moved to the Lime Tree in Paignton. Here again we built a new purpose built room and the academy grew. Unfortunately a fire destroyed much of the venue including the academy and so we moved again. We were offered a temporary venue which proved to be so good we decided to stay. And So Ye Olde Roundham Club became our new home. Rather than build a new academy area, we concentrated our efforts on the children and the fun and this proves to be working well, with children joining the academy from all over the South West.

At the academy we play the traditional 501 style games but we also play lots of darts related games. The boards are split into ability groups and each has a mentor, who guides the players and helps mark the games. The juniors are encouraged to mark and call when required.

For the developing players lots of target based games are played from hitting paper targets to colour segment based games with the enthesis on fun.

The academy has formed a good alliance with the Devon Youth darts team and finds it self in a good position to supply the County players of the future. We also help out in fund raising events with them.

If you or your children would like to come along why not contact us and find out more.

In 2016 the Paignton Darts Academy joined the Junior Darts Corporation. This enables us to compare our scores with those of the other member academies. We also get to enter their competitions and fun days. The cost to enter the JDC weekly challenge is £2.00 per week with 6 from 8 weeks needed to graduate from each JDC season. There are six seasons a year. In 2017 are mentors became qualified with the JDC to level 1 international coaching. Something we are very proud of.
